Problem Note 67306: "ERROR...The container-name cannot be opened in update mode..." occurs after a metadata server backup when a repository's state is not updated

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

After you perform a metadata server backup with the Reorganize repositories option enabled, one repository might not come back online at the end of the back-up process. This behavior results in an error similar to the following:

2020-07-05T04:52:20,337 ERROR [90000972] 5604556:sastrust@saspw - The prop container cannot be opened in update mode in the BILineage repository.

Note that this error can occur in containers other than the "prop container" mentioned above, and it can also occur in other repositories. It usually occurs in the last repository from the original list of repositories in the backup.

In order to confirm that the problem is occurring, search the metadata server log file located in the SAS-configuration-directory/Lev1/SASMeta/MetadataServer/Log directory for the following string: PauseState=

The search results show that, during the metadata server backup with Reorganize repositories enabled, all existing repositories were put in the PauseState=READONLY state while the reorganize was running, which is the desired behavior. These log entries demonstrate this behavior:

2020-07-06T01:00:10,908 INFO  [00407328] :sas - OpenRepository Id=A75RRT4E, Name=Foundation, PauseState=READONLY, RepositoryFormat=16, Model=16.01.
2020-07-06T01:04:59,469 INFO  [00407328] :sas - OpenRepository Id=A4EEIRCO, Name=BILineage, PauseState=READONLY, RepositoryFormat=16, Model=16.01.

However, the last repository in the list at the end of the reorganize, the BILineage repository, failed to come back to the PauseState=ONLINE state. Only the Foundation repository is brought back to the PauseState=ONLINE state:

2020-07-06T01:08:34,819 INFO  [00407328] :sas - OpenRepository Id=A75RRT4E, Name=Foundation, PauseState=ONLINE, RepositoryFormat=16, Model=16.01.
